Happy Beautylista

My very first makeup workshop, Happy Beautylista, was held last June 3, 2017.  I taught my students different makeup techniques to achieve a natural look and my co-facilitator and life coach friend, Kimi Lu, took care of nurturing their inner beauty through positive thinking and feel good exercises. My students learned basic makeup and were very eager to learn about contouring, highlighting, and shaping the eyebrows — well, because kilay is life and of course everyone wants to look slim, sculpted, and glowing at the right places!

We were so happy with the outpour of support given to us by our generous sponsors. We would like to thank Calyxta, Benefit, L’oreal, Rudy Project, Fitness 360, illuminate ph, and  Lifestyle Salon by Louis Philip Kee for the gift certificates and goodies for all our participants! It was a such a fun, light, and feel good afternoon that was all about makeup and good vibes! We actually had to extend the workshop because everyone was so eager to learn! Thank you queen of protons for pushing me to do this! We would also  like to thank our very first batch of happy beautylistas for attending the workshop! All of you made Kimi and I very happy!

Get Ready with Me in Coron

For summer vacation this year, we went to Coron in Palawan. It is just one of the 7,107 islands in the Philippines! Why travel far when there are so much more places to explore in our own country?! The island boasts of white sand beaches, turquoise water, crystal clear lakes, enchanting lagoons, marvelous rock formations, and rich marine life — no wonder it is ranked as a top travel destination in the world!

We stayed in a villa at Club Paradise with a beach front that welcomes you as you step out of the room. I love that they serve coffee and hot chocolate for the kids every morning at the villa’s porch, where you can just relax on a hammock and listen to the sound of the waves and watch birds flying by as you sip your coffee. Snorkeling there is also a fun activity! We saw a giant clam, school of fish, stingray, octopus, and a sea turtle — the cutest of them all! We were able to book a Coron Island tour in the airport and we saw destinations like the Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoon, and Green Lagoon. We hope to come back next time and explore the other beautiful islands!

Check out my video from the trip! Aside from showing you snippets of our Coron adventure, I will also show you how I get ready for the beach (with kids in tow) and my usual beach makeup routine. It is very light and natural! I used Benefit products for this video — it’s the makeup brand I use on my days off because it is so easy and simple to use. This one is special because it’s my first travel + makeup video! I hope you like it as much as I enjoyed making it!

Products used:

  • Boiing Airbrush Concealer (1)
  • Goof Proof Brow Pencil (3)
  • Browvo Conditioning Primer
  • Precisely My Brow Pencil
  • GoGo Tint (will be available in SEAsia sometime this year)
  • Watts Up Highlighter

3D Microbladed Brow Makeup

You have probably seen countless sponsored videos on Facebook and Instagram that demonstrates microblading of brows, also known as the 3D Eyebrow Embroidery. It’s quite mesmerising to see none existent Whoopi Goldberg eyebrows transform into Cara Delevingne eyebrows. It’s a huge leap from the old school permanent tattooed eyebrows  that becomes greenish blue after quite some time. I like how micro bladed brows look if done well, but I have also seen horror stories online of microblading gone wrong! So if you are like me, who just simply can’t commit to one eyebrow look for 2 full years, and don’t mind filling in your brows with makeup (the makeup geek in me actually enjoys it :P), Here’s another option you can do with makeup to achieve that microbladed eyebrow look! I just find a sense of comfort knowing that I can erase anything I put on my face at the end of the day. lol.

For this video, I used:

  • Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil in shade 3
  • K-palette Real Lasting Eyebrow in shade 1 (don’t go too dark to achieve a natural look)
  • Benefit Browvo! Conditioning Primer

Sparkle (Editorial Look)

The makeup world is far from over the strobing craze. These days, it’s all about highlighting, glowing, and the lit from within look – the brighter the highlighter, the better! I am taking the look a notch higher by creating this editorial look and adding sparkles! Yes, because highlighting is simply too basic for me right now. lol! Another huge spring makeup trend now that I demonstrated in the video is the tonal or monochromatic makeup. This is when your lipstick, blush, and eye shadow, are all in the same colour family. I have been doing this style for a very long time now, and in the makeup world things get hyped up and it becomes a “trend.” Same goes for highlighting, it’s very big right now, even a tad bit exaggerated, yet still a very old makeup artist technique.

This look is an editorial look and is not meant to be worn as an everyday look. lol. It’s just a fun way to play with makeup. Just a reminder Beautylistas, Don’t let anyone dull your sparkle and blind the haters with your glow! 😛

Niseko

We spent the first day of 2017 in captivating Niseko. It is known as the best ski terrain in Japan, located in the southern peninsula of Hokkaido, 2 hours and 30 mins away from the Chitose Airport. All i can say is, Wow! It really is a winter wonderland! Being from a tropical country, I was staring in awe as i watched the snowflakes fall gently from the sky. I sort of questioned my existence because I have always thought of myself as a beach bum, but after seeing Niseko and learning how to ski, I think it’s worth to give snow a chance. lol. The last time I saw snow was in the US more than a decade ago, and I don’t remember the snow being as beautiful as the snow in Niseko. When we were there, it was snowing every day, and the voluminous fresh snow was gorgeous and powdery! If the Philippines has the best white powdery sand, then Niseko has the best powdery snow!

Being in Niseko during January is like being in an entirely different country! Most of the people working in the ski resorts – the ski instructors, shuttle drivers, employees in the ski rental shops were all foreigners. The ones we met are originally from Australia, New Zealand, and London. It was really unexpected since we came from Tokyo, where communicating in English can sometimes be a struggle.

We stayed in a lovely Chalet, about 20 minutes away from Upper Hirafu where most of the restaurants, convenient stores, and bars are located. The resort we stayed in is not a ski in/ski out location, and shuttles arrive every hour from Hirafu. It might be better to just rent a car so you can go around at your own pace. Our chalet was clean, comfortable, and beautiful! Spacious enough for our family of 11! It even has its own onsen!

Skiing is definitely my favourite activity in Niseko. We chose skiing over snow boarding because the former looked easier to learn. We rented our gear and equipment from Rhythm on the main street of Grand Hirafu and had a half day lesson with a private instructor from Go Snow to teach us how to ski. It was so fun and addicting!!! You must first learn how to ski slowly and do the pizza plough or snowplough, which requires you to make a V shape on ice while skiing down the slope. Prepare for some tense butt and leg muscle action! Our instructor said our group learned quickly, so the next day, we went to the family lift for some huge mountain slope action! It was a bit scary to go down at first but super fun once you get the hang of it! I can’t wait to go back!!! I love the rush I get from skiing down the slopes!

We also had a snowmobile experience in White Isle Snowmobile Park. Our snowmobiles were classic models, the ones with pull start ropes to start the engine. lol. We went snowmobiling for about an hour and the view was spectacular! Imagine pristine white snow that fades into the horizon, beautiful bare trees all around, and fluffy snow!!! We made a stop over somewhere in the middle of the mountain and had time to play around with the fluffy snow! It was beautiful, definitely an experience ticked off this tropical girl’s bucket list!

Niseko is such a good place to visit as a family, kids and adults alike will love it there! I suggest staying in Niseko for about a week so you can relax, ski, snowboard, and do all the winter activities that you want, 3 days were definitely too short for us. I suggest making restaurant reservations ahead of time during peak season because most restaurants are small and have very limited seating. Other families hire a Japanese chef for a night to prepare a sumptuous meal in their chalet! Sounds like an experience to me! Next time (yes, it’s a place where “next time” is a must)  we will definitely stay longer, and perhaps stay in a ski in/ski out place and try snowboarding! Niseko, you are all sorts of wonderful – we will see you again someday! 🙂

Pink Valentine’s Day Makeup

Colors like pink, red, and burgundy, placed on the peepers are popular these days. There are several beauty companies making new eyeshadow palettes with red undertones. For this look, I am using the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette. It has a lot of beautiful rich reds mixed with warm browns and champagne shimmers. For those who do not have these modern eyeshadows, you may use your lipstick or lipliner to achieve this eye look. I suggest using a matte lipstick rather than something glossy or satin, unless you’re going for the glossy editorial eye look. Just make sure that it isn’t infused with peppermint, we don’t want our eyes to sting! Don’t you think it’s perfect to have that pop of pink or red during Valentine’s Day?

Lazada Finds

Christmas is just around the corner. Have you started Christmas shopping? How about making your Christmas list? Don’t cram and wait until December to shop! Avoid the christmas rush and shop early! Better yet, why don’t you try online shopping? No lines and NO TRAFFIC!! Plus, sometimes the best deals are found online!

I went online shopping at Lazada after attending their first style convention. I had the privilege of sharing the stage as a panelist with other ladies in the beauty and fashion industry such as Kelsey Meritt, Patty Ang, Sassa Jimenez, and Bea Constantino. We discussed about fashion, beauty, and online shopping! I had a lot of fun and I also learned a lot from my fellow panelists. In this blog post, I am sharing with you some online tips that i have learned and also shared at the style convention:

Online Shopping Tips:

  1. When you see something you like, think about it and sleep on it. If you decide that you really like it, canvass around and find the best deal and price that you can find. If you think you’re getting it for a good price, then go for it!
  2.  Since you can’t fit the clothes when online shopping, you should know your body type. It’s easier to get styles that you know will suit your body type. Also check the measuring guide to get the perfect size for you.
  3. When shopping for make-up, check reviews online or on the website. Also check the swatches to make sure that the colours will suit you.
  4. Make use of the filter button, it’s there for a reason! It will make surfing easier, especially if you already know what you are looking for.
  5. Try to buy everything you want in one go rather than shopping in small separate transactions, e-commerce sites usually give free shipping when you reach a certain amount.

Shopping in Lazada was quick and easy. They carry a myriad of products to choose from – something for the whole family! Check out my Lazada finds for the whole family:

  1. 10-pcs Oval Brush Set dsc06667Curious about these oval brushes? Order them online for only P899 ($18)! They’re a lot cheaper than those brands from the US. 🙂 They’re pretty soft too!

2. Fosoto 18″ LED Dimmable Ringlight

dsc06674

This Ring light is awesome!!! 🙂 It perfectly lights up the entire face, great for make-up artists. It has attachable accessories for cameras and phones so it is great for bloggers, vloggers, or anyone who needs that perfect lighting in her vanity room. It costs P6440 ($129), other online sellers were selling this whole set with a stand, filters, and bag, for 7500-8500. This one shipped from China so it took about a week to get here. I have the Glamcor Multimedia Extreme, and honestly this ring light provides better illumination because of its round shape. The good thing about the Glamcor is that it has an attachable mirror (essential to MUAs), it is more light weight, compact, and is also made with high quality materials.

3. Schott Zweisel Burgundy Wine Glassimg_1394

I got this for the husband because he just recently started his wine collection. The quality is good, and it costs P2350 ($47).

4. JBYD-0688 Money Bill Counter

dsc06668

This is for the entrepreneurs out there. Got this for about P3,400 ($68). Bill counters cost about P9,000-10,000 in National Bookstore.

5. 3-Pcs Mermaid Swimsuit with Tail (cute baby fats not included. lol)dsc06335

Last but not least, I purchased these cute mermaid swimsuits for my kids. Since I got these, they haven’t worn any of their other swimsuits. It costs P659, perfect gift for your niece or daughter! It comes with a bikini bottom too! 🙂

Happy Christmas Shopping Everyone!!! It’s the season of giving! Check out Lazada for Christmas gift ideas!
