Ina Raymundo, Actress

For this month’s glow job, I am featuring the one and only ageless zumba queen and fitspiration, Ina Raymundo. The first time I saw her at the gym, I noticed her radiant skin and healthy flush. I wondered what foundation or highlighter she was using, but as soon as I took a second glance at her, i realized that it was just her skin. Her sweat is actually her highlighter! One look at her sculpted arms, you will know that she is a fitness buff and that exercise is part of her lifestyle. What a privilege it was to interview her about her fitness routine and diet — for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and everything in between. We all know that diet is 80% of the battle when it comes to weight loss. So here it is, beautylistas! Straight from one of my favorite fitspirations, Ina Raymundo.

Angela: You are a fitspiration to many. How do you maintain your figure?

Ina: I workout 5 times a week and I eat well. I eat 6 small meals. I eat on time and I never skip meals. I count my calories. What’s ideal for me is 1500 calories.

How do you count your calories?

I use My Fitness Pal App, but not everyday, only when I need it like when I have to prepare for something (for work.) I enjoy my life, it’s all about balance. I would have cheat days too. Let’s say Monday to Thursday, I would eat very clean. I really follow my formula, my diet is for diabetic. I avoid sugar.

How about carbohydrates?

I eat good carbohydrates such as brown rice and wheat bread. I have a formula patterned from diabetic diet. For breakfast, I would have 2 servings of carbohydrates which is equivalent to 2 slices of wheat bread or 1 wheat bread and 1 cup of cereal.  You can actually have two servings of carbohydrates in the morning.

How did you know about this diet?

I did this when I was pregnant with Erika and  had gestational diabetes. I went to a dietician and they gave me a chart. I used it for almost a year that’s why I remember it and it stuck with me. Here’s my diet, I have breakfast at 6:30 am.

Breakfast
2 egg whites
1 slice of wheat bread
1 cup of healthy cereal (not sugary)

I look forward to my breakfast. I would even say that it’s my favorite meal, and to think I eat the same thing every single day, but I don’t get tired, maybe that’s just my personality. I am very disciplined that way also because I know that it’s filling and very nourishing. At 9:00 am, I will have my second meal which is my mid morning snack.

Mid morning snack:
1 slice of bread with 1 tablespoon of peanut butter

1 banana.

I look forward to that every single day. The dietician said that your first fruit shouldn’t be eaten first thing in the morning that’s why I have it during my mid morning snack. For me, I noticed that when I have a fruit first thing in the morning, I feel sugar low — sugar high then sugar low, which is not good. It has to be gradual. Dapat sakto lang yung food intake mo. No sugar high and no sugar low. Sugar low is when you’re starving yourself and that’s what most people do when they’re  fasting.  For example, for some people, if they have their first meal at 4pm, 3:30 pm sobrang gustom na sila and nanghihina na, sugar low, then they’re excited to eat and then end up eating junk which isn’t healthy. You might lose weight, but in an unhealthy way. In my opinion, IF is not for everyone. So for me, what really works is the 6 small meals a day. So, I have lunch at 12:00 pm.

Lunch:
1 cup of brown rice
home cooked chicken breast
2 servings of fruit = 1 cup of any fruit
Sautéed vegetables

When I don’t follow the time of my meals I feel weak. That’s why I really follow it, and I feel strong all the time. I workout and I’m energetic.

Afternoon snack:
Cereal with one cup of skimmed milk

Half a fruit

Dinner:
1 cup of rice
portioned fish, chicken, or beef.

Bedtime Snack:
multigrain sky flakes
8 pcs of roasted almonds

Masarap yung tulog ko. If I don’t have a bedtime snack, I will wake up at 2:00 am na gutom. Ganun talaga yung body ko. If my diet is like this without working out, I will not gain weight. I will just maintain. But because I like to have cheat meals on weekends, I workout.

How long have you been following this diet?

I’ve been on this diet for 17 years, since I gave birth to Erika. It’s also a good diet for pregnant women.

How do you get the discipline to eat clean and continue this for 17 years?

I know if I don’t eat well, I will still end up with diabetes because it runs in my family.

What’s your advice for people who want to be fit?

Start from minimum workout. If it’s your first time to go to the gym, you just do 10 minutes first on treadmill. Start small and don’t overwhelm yourself. When you feel bitin, make it longer until you are progressing. You just need to start. It’s never too late.

Kaye Garcia, Event Stylist Extraordinaire

Apart from the obvious, we all know she is gorgeous — straight forward, real, talented, and smart are a few words to describe event stylist extraordinare, Kaye Garcia. What a privilege it has been to pick her brain, as she shares how she manages a successful career and family life. Her skin care routine is just the icing on the cake as she shares her beauty OG products to maintain her beautiful skin.

Angela: You’re one of the most sought after event stylists now. How did your career in styling begin?

Kaye: I always enjoyed setting up the parties of my kids. After I had Adriana, a friend suggested I try it for real. Make a go of it as a business. I was hesitant but she sent me sample rates of other stylists and I realized that it might be feasible. I styled the 4th birthday party of my friend and the following month — just by word of mouth, I had 6 paying jobs. I haven’t stopped since. That was 2013.

Having 4 children, how do you balance career life, family life, and having your me time?

I am hyper-organized. Everything is planned and thought of daily. I schedule meticulously and I do everything in advance. If you know me well, you’ll know I’m always almost on time. When I have an event, I set up very early even if it means I spend more money just to get things done early I would do it. I prioritize my family. They come first. My work is second and lastly, my social life.

What is your skin care regimen?

I alternate 3 brands — Sunday Riley, Whoo, and Charlotte Tilbury. I never sleep with my makeup on. NEVER. No matter how tired or intoxicated I am, I wash my face and apply skin care. My sunblock is Anessa Shiseido. I use this daily. For the beach, I use VMV. I think water, lots of vegetables, and proper sleep is crucial to having good skin.

What are your makeup must haves?

I don’t put makeup a lot. I usually touch up my brows with urban decay brow kit, I apply cheek tint, and lipstick. That’s my daily makeup routine. For special events, I hire people.

What’s your definition of beauty?

The obvious answer would be physical. Almost always, what’s beautiful is dictated by society, by your upbringing, and by the media. To me, even though I am a slave to wanting to be beautiful in the eyes of many,

“I believe beauty is whatever sparks a feeling. A place that inspires is beautiful, a story that educates is beautiful, an experience that you never forget is beautiful. You can find what a person has gone through in her life on her face. That is beautiful.”

Shari Poquiz @themistymom

Introducing my first Beautylista Babe, Shari Poquiz. She is the epitome of a true Beautylista — a beautiful, kind, strong, determined, and empowered woman. A beauty that goes beyond what the eyes can see. It was fun giving her a glow job and peeking into her current favourite makeup and skincare products! Yes, you’re welcome!

Shari Poquiz, @themistymom

Angela: How did you come up with the name misty mom? What does it mean?

Shari: I like facial mists! Just kidding! Actually, there’s no deep meaning into it. I wanted to start a mom blog because I was pregnant. Misty was the first thing I came up with and the word fits the logo I was making. What it means, it’s a mystery.

How did you become a blogger?

I was pregnant and I had really bad morning sickness when I started my blog. I was in the bathroom half of the day so I had to quit my corporate job. I was so used to being busy coming from a demanding media job so I had all that free time. I was making websites since I was 10, and I really liked designing and writing, so blogging became my creative outlet during that time. I didn’t want to be idle. I gravitated towards beauty blogging because I was having a girl and for the first time in my life, I was attracted to lipsticks. I never wore them before, but when I got pregnant, I finally found myself in the Mac counters looking for a red lipstick which I never wore before.

My mom blog became a beauty blog. I wrote about beauty more because motherhood was a sensitive topic online. Being a first time mom then, I didn’t want to engage in it, and playing with makeup was a break for me at times when I got overwhelmed with motherhood. I would even connect with women from different countries about makeup with no judgements, which I really liked, then I started to shift my blog towards motherhood. I connected with moms who wanted to feel good about themselves and experiment with makeup, mostly the millennial moms.

What is your day and night skin care routine?

During the day, I don’t really put on a lot. I use the La Mer Moisturizing Matte Lotion. It’s just light and it can be layered under makeup. For foundation, I use Clinique Fit, I use it as day time makeup. It’s super lightweight because it’s watery, it has SPF 40, and it has medium coverage. It also stays on even if I sweat. For events, I use the Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation mixed with Mac Strobe Cream because I don’t like it to feel so heavy. It is super high coverage, and I don’t need to wear concealer anymore.

At night, I used to do the 9-step Korean routine but I think my skin wasn’t used to it, so I paired down and I went back to what worked for me. What really worked for me is the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair. No joke guys! I’ve used this for 5 years. I always go back to it and I always have a back up of this. I also have the Estee Lauder Intense Recovery Ampules which I just started using last year. It’s a more concentrated version of the night repair serum. I really like this. When I wake up in the morning, ayoko mag hilamos (I don’t want to wash my face.) My skin becomes soft, smooth and I don’t break out with it. After the serum, I use the La Prairie White Caviar Illuminating Moisturizing Cream. It’s the only product that I can vouch for that brightened and whitened me a bit, even my mom swears by it. It also helps brighten the under eyes. I don’t use eye cream so I just use the Patchology Rejuvenating Eye Gel. I use it twice a week. My undereyes are brighter when I wake up. I also use the the day version of this at night. It has caffeine so it de puffs the under eye. My facial wash is Neogen Green Tea Real Fresh Foam Cleanser. It calms my breakouts. When I have thick make up on, I double cleanse and use the Banila Co Clean It Zero or Estee Lauder Micro Cleansing Balm to remove my makeup before using my cleanser.

What are your ride or die products?

My ride or die makeup is the Mac Pro Longwear Concealer. I can go out without kilay (eyebrows) but I cannot go out without concealer. My favorite highlighter is from Gerard Cosmetics Star Powder in Audrey. For bronzer, I like the Guerlain Terracotta. I like Benefit Hoola also because it is cooler toned. For the lips, I like the Pixie Matte Liquid Lipstick. What I love about it is that it’s super lightweight, but not drying on lips. My lips are sensitive, it peels and bleeds at the touch of super dry lipsticks so this one has been the most tolerable, and lasts long on me. They don’t bleed like other lipsticks. For eyeshadow, Tom Ford Eye Quad in Coco Mirage and Orchid Haze eyeshadows are worth it for me, for someone who doesn’t know how to put eyeshadow on. It blends easily and doesn’t get patchy. I would use my finger and just rub the eyeshadow on my lids, then I would get compliments from people — that’s when I realized they’re worth it.

Holy Grail Makeup

My favorite scent is Aerin Ikat Jasmine. I really like perfumes. Okay na na hindi pansin yung makeup ko pero gusto ko maalala how I smell. (It’s okay if people don’t notice my make up, I want people to remember my scent.) That’s the impression I want to leave and scents evoke memories. Kahit wala kang kilay basta mabango ka! (It’s okay not to have eyebrows, as long as you smell good!)

I have to say that Aveda really changed my hair. I’ve been colouring my hair for the longest time so it became dry and damaged. Ever since I used the Aveda Damage Remedy shampoo, conditioner and hair mask, my hair has been stronger. I can attest to that because I have been wanting to do this treatment in the salon to relax my hair but they refused to do it because my hair was too dry and damaged. I kept asking them if my hair was ready, and they kept saying no. Three months of using the shampoo, I went back to the salon, they tested my hair, and it became stronger — they finally allowed me to do it! So these really work! I also use Aveda Color Conserve to protect my ash colour so it doesn’t get brassy. I apply Aveda Smooth Infusion on my damp hair and it helps remove frizziness and straighten my wavy hair without effort.

You look so fit now! How do you take care of  your body?

I just started and I’m not an expert at this. I’m still learning as I go. When I was in college, I thought I could just diet so that my body will look good and be thin, but I was really far from being truly fit. I recently went back to the gym and had a fitness test. Warm up palang I felt like fainting already. Nag black na yung vision ko! I felt so bad. I regret not doing any exercise even just at home after I gave birth, that’s 6 years of sedentary lifestyle, just running after kids and lifting them. Going up the stairs was a burden. What made me feel guilty was when my kids asked me to play hide and seek and I got tired easily. I had to sit down right away because I couldn’t keep up with them — that’s when I really decided to go back to the gym. I’m also trying to eat clean. I eat more vegetables now, and drink lots of water. I’m doing it little by little, baby steps — that’s what I tell my followers now who feel like I’m suddenly this fit woman. I am far from it. I still want to do yoga and try to build my endurance. One day at a time!
