Sparkle (Editorial Look)

The makeup world is far from over the strobing craze. These days, it’s all about highlighting, glowing, and the lit from within look – the brighter the highlighter, the better! I am taking the look a notch higher by creating this editorial look and adding sparkles! Yes, because highlighting is simply too basic for me right now. lol! Another huge spring makeup trend now that I demonstrated in the video is the tonal or monochromatic makeup. This is when your lipstick, blush, and eye shadow, are all in the same colour family. I have been doing this style for a very long time now, and in the makeup world things get hyped up and it becomes a “trend.” Same goes for highlighting, it’s very big right now, even a tad bit exaggerated, yet still a very old makeup artist technique.

This look is an editorial look and is not meant to be worn as an everyday look. lol. It’s just a fun way to play with makeup. Just a reminder Beautylistas, Don’t let anyone dull your sparkle and blind the haters with your glow! 😛

Pink Valentine’s Day Makeup

Colors like pink, red, and burgundy, placed on the peepers are popular these days. There are several beauty companies making new eyeshadow palettes with red undertones. For this look, I am using the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette. It has a lot of beautiful rich reds mixed with warm browns and champagne shimmers. For those who do not have these modern eyeshadows, you may use your lipstick or lipliner to achieve this eye look. I suggest using a matte lipstick rather than something glossy or satin, unless you’re going for the glossy editorial eye look. Just make sure that it isn’t infused with peppermint, we don’t want our eyes to sting! Don’t you think it’s perfect to have that pop of pink or red during Valentine’s Day?

Halloween 2016: Pixel Makeup (video)

Tips on how to create pixel make-up:

  • The key to creating pixel makeup is to make little square shapes on your face.
  • All your facial features should have square edges. For this look, I used a very precise waterproof liquid liner (kat von d) on the eyes to draw tiny squares on that small area near the top and bottom lashes. For the brows, I just used a black eyeliner to draw on my pixelated brows.
  • Use different brown tones to create the square pixel effect. Having a concealer wheel or palette is perfect for this look. I used 3 colors of dark to light concealer here. I placed the darkest color on the areas where I would normally contour my face, like the jawline and hollows of the cheek, then I created a gradient square effect using the lighter colors.
  • Set with translucent powder to prevent oil buildup and also so that it will last the whole night.
  • For the lips, I used about 4 colors of lipstick. It’s best to use liquid lipsticks so it won’t smudge and mix together after while.

Here is a quick pixel lip demo:

That’s it! Hope you have fun creating this look as much as I did! 🙂 Happy Halloween!

90’s Makeup Video

I have so many fond memories growing up in the 90’s! I remember owning Lisa Frank trapper keepers, Polly Pockets, and Koosh Balls. Yeah, you know it! How about renting VHS tapes? (sorry kids! this was way before DVDs and Netflix were born!) My sister and I knew Clueless and Mighty Ducks by heart, as in memorised verbatim. lol! We grew up listening to Spice Girls and Britney Spears, but my friends and I were really into hip-hop music – Puff Daddy and Notorious BIG! We also rocked the body glitter, frosted blue eyeshadow, jelly sandals, and doc martens! Feeling nostalgic yet? One thing that’s definitely back from the 90s is the brown lip, very Beverly Hills 90210! Here’s a quick video on how to rock the 90’s look:

Product Breakdown:

  1. Foundation: I used RMK creamy foundation and applied the Too Faced Born This Way foundation on the places around my face that I want to contour (it’s a darker shade than my natural colour.)
  2. Brows: I used the cinema secrets concealer at the bottom part of my brows to act as a guide as to where I should apply the brow product. I used the Benefit browvo conditioning primer to prime my brows and to see the sparse areas, then I used the precisely my brow pencil to fill in my brows by doing small hair like strokes. Remember to blend product with the brush end! I finished off with the 3D brow tones to keep my brows in place.
  3. Eyeshadow: I used the It cosmetics naturally beautiful palette, and used different brown shades as my eyeshadow colours. I also used the matte black shadow as my eyeliner because I could not find one at that moment, and why not?! Make-up products are versatile!
  4. Liquid Lipstick: Beeper by Colour Pop
  5. Highlighter (not in video): Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow.

Valerie Concepcion Bronze Makeup (Jlo inspired tutorial)

Let’s give a warm welcome to my friend Valerie Concepcion here at Beautylista! I met Val several years ago while my husband was still playing for San Miguel Corp., ever since then, we have remained friends. She has an effervescent personality, but above all, she is real and kind. She just came from a recent surfing trip and her skin was darker than usual, her skin was sun kissed which perfectly matched her hair color. I am so happy she agreed to be my first celebrity guest at beautylista. I asked her if she had a preferred look for the make-up tutorial, and without any hesitation, she said Jlo!!! Why not? She’s hot, bronze, and beautiful, just like her idol Jlo! 🙂 Thank you also to my hairstylist, Mycke Arcano, for creating her beautiful undone waves! So ladies and gents, I hope you enjoy this tutorial as much as I enjoyed putting this together. I hope you learn a thing or two from this tutorial, I especially showed the viewers how I put on an eyelid tape and stack double lashes together! Enjoy!!! 🙂

Peace and Love

Sculpting Stix and Cheekathon

A quick preview of my current favourites: colourpop sculpting stix and benefit cheekathon palette!

View this post on Instagram

Reposting from @beautylista ✨ Sharing with you my favorites for this month! I am currently loving #colourpop #sculptingstix in new renaissance to contour my face. It is great for on the go application. Remember to apply and immediately smudge with fingers or a brush because it is very pigmented! (Blends well with this real techniques brush.) Best part is it is only $5.00! I am also loving the #benefit #cheekathon! It's a blush palette for every mood! 5 full sized blushes for the price of 2! Worth it!! 👍🏼Mixed coralista and dandelion to create a pinkish coral flush, it has tiny specs of highlight as well so it instantly brightens the face!! ✨ #backtofilming #makeuptutorial #contour #blush #makeup #motd #asianmakeup #manilamua @benefitph @colourpopcosmetics | music: kill em with kindness by Selena Gomez

Kendall Jenner Inspired Makeup

Kendall Jenner is the quintessential social media model. She has a huge online fan base which led her to walking the runways for fashion powerhouses, and modelling for ad campaigns and magazine covers. Whether you love or hate the Kardashians, you cannot deny the fact that they are modern make-up icons. I personally find her stunning—backed up by her model physique and elongated eyes that mesmerise.

I have been wanting to do another celebrity inspired make-up tutorial and came across a photo she posted on her instagram account. I thought it was perfect because it looked like an edgier version of herself, with bronze skin and metallic smokey eyes—very different from her usual pink lips and winged eye liner. For the eye make-up, all the eyeshadows I used are from the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette—one of the palettes that most beautylistas own. I hope you enjoy doing this look! Goodluck!
