Beauty Bar Summer Cult Favorites

Welcoming the peak of summer with these awesome products available in Beauty Bar! The first brand the caught my interest was Not Your Mother’s. I first heard about it from my hair stylist friend, Mycke Arcano, as he recommended this brand for it’s volumizing hair powder. It is a brand that creates salon quality products at reasonable price points.¬†DSC08057

Hairstylist Daniel first applied the Love For Hue colour hair protectant that was formulated to treat coloured hair. After curling my hair, he finished off my curls with the She’s a Tease volumizing hair spray because I have thin and limp hair. Love it!

I got feedback from friends too about how much they love their dry shampoo! ūüôā This looks like such a promising brand, with great reviews!

Another product that I love is Sun Bum! It’s perfect for me, since I am such a beach bum. I have tried their sunscreen spray and I love that it smells like coconuts and is infused with vitamin E and an antioxidant to fight premature skin ageing.

It’s my first time to come across this brand, but it had me at Pawpaw. I use a pawpaw balm in my makeup kit to deeply moisturise lips! Excited to try my multipurpose balm that claims to moisturise lips and skin, smooth unruly brows, and soften cuticles.

Last but not least is Full Brow. It’s a one stop shop for all your brow needs — they have a brow smudge, crayon, and powder! What stood out for me was the brow wax. It seals brows for a long lasting wear, perfect for the beach! It’s also formulated with castor oil to nourish the brows. Another product that I liked was the highlighter pencil. It’s luminous but not glittery, it gives you a nice dewy glow!

All these items are available in Beauty Bar. You may also visit their website¬†here. Happy shopping! You won’t regret having these summer cult favourites in your beach bag!

Mother’s Day Makeup By My Kids

Thank you Calyxta Beauty for making us a part of your Mother’s Day video shoot! My kids really enjoyed doing it, they said “It’s the best day ever!” They think they’re now famous because they’re in YouTube. lol! Check out my runway look – lots of pink and a dash of holographic glitter! I’m just happy that I didn’t end up looking like Anabel. haha!

2018 Makeup Trends

¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† Welcoming a new year means welcoming new makeup trends! ūüôā What makeup looks am I loving this 2018? Number one in my list is still the glowing and radiant skin trend. I made sure to prep my skin with the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream to make my skin plump, soft, and radiant. For the glow, I used the Cover Fx custom enhancer drops in sunlight. It is a soft gold liquid highlighter so it emanates warm radiance from the face, which brings me to another trend I am currently enjoying — gold highlighter! Thanks to Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty Killawatt Highlighter which rocked the makeup world at the latter part of 2017. If you’re not ready to go all out with yellow gold highlighter, you won’t regret giving pale gold a shot. Feathery brows are still roaming free this 2018 so I just brushed up my brows with benefit brow vo and and filled it in with hair like strokes with the K-palette real lasting eyebrow pen. For the lips, I went for a pop of colour and topped it off with the Kiko 3D hydra lipgloss 18. This year, you can expect radiant skin to pair well with glossy lips! I’m actually glad to set aside my ultra matte lippies as it dries up my lips and makes them appear cracked after wearing for a couple of hours. ¬†For the eyes, I used a burnt copper shimmer eye shadow from Viseart Le Petit Pro on the crease and a Kiko Milano long lasting eyebrow stick with glitter specs, because glitter on the lids is still going strong this 2018. I just can’t get enough of KiraKira! Last but not least, I am all for the rosy tan spring/summer trend, it gives you a sun kissed look without the sun!!! I used a staple in my kit, Soleil Tan de Chanel, as cream bronzer and added the Kiko Milano velvet touch creamy stick blush 02 to give me that healthy, sun kissed, and rosy glow. What make up trends are you excited to try this year?

Kylie Jenner’s Lipkits

The Kylie Lipkit was the most anticipated and talked about lip product ever to be released. Thanks to brilliant social media marketing, months and hours leading to its release date. When it finally launched, the website crashed and the lip kits were sold out in a matter of minutes. All I can do is stand up and slow clap for Kylie. She really knows how to keep beauty junkies at the edge of their seats. The first few times it came out, you were lucky to be able to purchase one. I tried purchasing online myself, logged in 20 minutes after its release announcement, and unfortunately didn’t make it on time – I was already typing my payment details!!!  If you don’t have lighting speed typing skills, then say goodbye to whatever was in your cart! I ended up buying one from a reseller for P2600 probably (around $55). The price was fair enough since the kits have two products inside, a liner and a liquid lipstick. Also, I have seen others sell it for P5000 and even P8000, crazy right?!

Matte Liquid Lipstick and Lip Liner: Koko K and Candy K

Koko K is a nude pink colour. Here it is worn on my lips and against my complexion. I am fair skinned, with yellow under tone, probably NC 20 at MAC. I really like this one. It’s very soft and feminine.

Candy K is a dark dusty rose colour on my lips. It has a brown undertone to it, so it has a 90’s feel to it as well, very on trend right now.

The night before I used the lip kit, I applied the Laneige Sleeping Mask as an overnight lip care to help soften and moisturise my lips. All liquid lipsticks are drying on the lips so I would advise to slather on a lip mask the night before, or to do a lip scrub before applying the lipstick. In the photos, I put lip liner all over  my lips and then applied the liquid lipstick on top because I wanted it to be really long lasting. It lasted for about 5 hours in spite of all the drinks and snacks I had. You may also just line the lips and and fill in with the liquid lip colour.

The Kylie matte liquid lipstick applies creamy and dries to an ultra matte finish. They are long lasting and also drying on the lips. I think it is more matte and drying compared to the Stila liquid lipsticks. It lasted about 5 hours on me, and had a bit of fading at the centre of my lips after an oily meal. The lip liner has a soft texture and it  glides on smoothly with ease. Is it worth the hype? Well, if you are a beauty junkie, a kylie fan, or a liquid lipstick collector, then YES! If not, then it is just your typical liquid lipstick! I like that it comes with a lip liner, but so does colourpop cosmetics for less than half the price! ūüėĄ So, are you planning to get one for yourself?

Benefit’s New Brow Collection

I read somewhere that if the eyes are the windows of the soul, then the brows are the maps of the psyche. I love brows that convey¬†a youthful and elegant appearance, not too thin, not too arched, just enough¬†to give your eye a lift and neatly frame your face. As a make-up artist, if you ask me what part I love doing most during make-up application, I would definitely reply¬†with enthusiasm ‚ÄĒ”the brows!”

Benefit Cosmetics really set their brow game high with this new brow collection. It is now a one stop shop for all your brow needs! I used to go to different make-up stores to purchase a brow gel, brow powder, brow slanted pencil, brow fine tip pencil, and brow mascara. As you can see, I am obsessed with brows! So, imagine my excitement upon seeing this whole range of brow products!!! All available in one store!!!

Tada!!! Pinch yourself, these are all coming soon!!

Let me give you an up close sneak peek of the products:

  1. Precisely, My Brow Pencil –¬†Its ultra fine tip allows you to make little hair like strokes to fill in and define your brows. It is equipped with a twist up non sharpen tip, and is also waterproof, lasts for 12 hours! It has a spoolie brush on one end to blend ¬†the inner part of your brows and make sure your brows do not look unnatural.precisely_pencil_open2

2. Goof Proof Brow Pencil¬†–¬†It has a soft slanted tip,¬†which makes it easier to fill in the brows and define the brow tail quickly, this kind of tip is my favourite! It just makes application faster! Like the precisely brow pencil, it has a spoolie brush on one end, has a twist-up non-sharpen tip, and is waterproof as well.

3. High Brow Glow РThis product instantly highlights and illuminates arches. Just apply it right underneath your brow arch, and notice how that subtle illuminating will make the eyes more awake and the brows more defined.

4. Gimme Brow – This award-winning volumizing product just got better with 3 shades to choose from. This is perfect for those with thin brows because it contains microfibers that sticks to the hair and skin for more natural and fuller looking brows.

5.¬†Browvo! Conditioning Primer – This primer contains keratin and soy proteins to make the brows look thicker and healthier. It can be worn alone, applied overnight, or used under brow make-up to enhance colour and extend wear. I do the latter, it’s perfect for that feathery natural brow effect that we see in recent runways and editorials. As i prime, I see where i have gaps in between my brows and use that as a guide to fill it in.

6. Ready, Set, Brow! – Do you have unruly brows? If you do, then this is for you! This clear shaping and setting gel holds brow hair in place and allows your brow make-up to stay in place the whole day! No more bad brow day!

7. Brow Zings –¬†The original brow zings just got better with six shades to choose from! Like the original brow zing, it has mini tweezers for instant on the go brow grooming (this is something I need as I am always on the go and I always need to pluck those annoying stray hairs!) ¬†I like that this new packaging includes an¬†extendable dual ended brush to apply the perfect mix of wax and brow powder.

8. 3D Browtones РDo you need to soften the look of your dark brows? If you do, then this product is for you. Avoid dull and flat looking brows by adding subtle dimension with the 3D Browtones!

9. Ka-Brow! РI use creamy gel brow products for formal events and photoshoots where I really need to define the brows and make them darker to look natural and not washed out when photographed. The Ka-brow builds form natural looking to dramatic brows with just a few strokes. A little product goes a long way! It is long wearing, lasts for 24 hours, and is waterproof as well. I love how you can just pull out the applicator from the cap, awesome packaging! Apply the gel on the outer part of the brows and slowly work your way into the inner part with less product on the brush for natural brows that will stay put from day to night!

Amazing eyebrow make-up spread, right? I am sure your current brow dilemma will be solved by one of these products! Bravo Benefit! You have out done yourself with this collection! You are now the queen of brows in my book! lol! Now, I will give you time to absorb and process all the information you have just read. Allow me to take you to the Benefit brow collection launch party!

Benefit They’re Real Tinted Primer

Benefit Cosmetics launched the They’re Real Tinted Primer last last February 11, 2016. It was my first time to attend a Benefit event and it was a pleasure to meet all the fab and lovely benebabes!

Thanks benebabes, Tasha and Kriska! I am excited to work with you guys!! ūüôā
During the event, I was able to wear the tinted primer on its own. It separated my lashes and also gave them a light and feathery definition – very nice for everyday wear. The primer has a brown tint with a nice bendable brush wand applicator as well.

Miakka told me that they are launching a lot of exciting products this year!! Wee!!

Kriska and I with the beneboys!
After trying the product and chatting amongst other make-up enthusiasts, benefit treated us to a private screening of How to be Single, which surely left us all smiling!

Catching up with pretty Cerah before the movie started!

I tried on the tinted primer a few days after the event and I like the effect that it gave my lashes. My lashes looked neater, and also more fixed, separated, and defined. It’s like wearing a very light and natural falsie, but oops, they’re real! haha! Just exactly what the label implies! My eyes are more defined because the roots of my lashes darkened. It’s soft enough to layer with another mascara, because it has provitamin B5 which softens the lashes.

Benefit Tinted Primer worn alone
How I applied the Tinted Primer:

  1. I gave my lashes a very good curl.
  2. I applied the Benefit Tinted Primer. Remember to wiggle the mascara at the base of the lashes to get into the roots! Apply also on your lower lashes to make them look thicker.
  3. I curled my eyelashes again so that my lashes will stay up. Be careful though, other people don’t advise curling their lashes after applying mascara because they say that their lashes get pulled out when the lashes slightly stick to the lash curler. In my personal experience, I have been doing that ever since and my lashes are fine. Do what works for you.
  4. You’re done! You may layer with another mascara for a more glamorous and intense effect! ūüôā

Result after using the benefit tinted primer + roller lash + eyelash curler:

Loving the combo! My lashes are longer and more defined!ūüĎćūüŹľ

Holiday Look: Glitters!

My all time favourite product to use during the holiday season is the Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner (Midnight Cowboy) by Urban Decay. It is the perfect glitter to use on the eyelids! It is also versatile Рone can use it as an eyeliner, on top of an eyeliner, or all over the lids just like what I did. The best thing about it is that the glitter stays in place once it has dried. It does not dry up in the bottle and the consistency remains the same even after a year! I paired this look with a red lipstick. No other make-up says christmas like a perfect red lip! I used the classic Ruby Woo by Mac for this look.

Products used:

  • POREfessional by Benefit
  • RMK Creamy Gel Foundation in 102 and Born¬†This Way Foundation in Light Beige as subtle foundation contour
  • Shu Uemura Hard Formula in Acorn and Walnut Brown
  • Maybelline Gel Eye Liner in Black
  • Naked 2 Palette (half baked) and Naturally Pretty Palette (Warmth, Java, Noir, Sunrise)
  • Maybelline Falsies Volume Express Waterproof Mascara
  • Nars Creamy Radiant Concealer in Custard
  • Chanel Les Beiges
  • Mac Ruby Woo

Enjoy the holidays!

Stila Eternal Love Lipstick Set

Liquid lipsticks have been gaining popularity these past few years. They are known to be long wearing, opaque, and ultra matte. I heard good things about the Stila liquid lipsticks so I decided to purchase it when I came across their holiday set, particularly the Eternal Love Lipstick Set. It retails for P1250 in Rustans, but in the US (Ulta) it only costs $20. The set contains three colours – Baci, Ricco, and Beso. I like the consistency of the lipstick. It applies creamy (a little bit creamier than the NYX soft matte lip cream and Lime Crime velvetines) and it dries to matte. It is absolutely long wearing — the lipstick will not move at all, unless you eat with it. I actually ate carefully with it, and it did not erase the lipstick. There was a little lightening of colour on the inner part of my lips, but it did not erase it. Quite amazing, right? But of course, if you’re eating something very oily, for sure there will be some fading (oil removes make-up.) The liquid lipsticks are a lot like lip paints. They really stick to the lips, and one will need a make-up remover to get these off.

Baci is mauve nude, Ricco is deep burgundy with a hint of brown, and Beso is bright red.

Baci on my lips

I think it looks nice in photo, but in person it looks a little bit light on my pale skin. I can intensify the eyes more, or just mix it with another colour. I should try mixing this and Ricco to get a deeper colour. I like it though because i do not own any mauve nude lipstick. I paired this with a warmer blush color as Baci is very cool toned.

Ricco on my lips

Ricco is a very dark burgundy colour. Try it if you want to jump on board the current grunge lips trend. It is actually too dark in person for my pale skin. I am still mustering up the courage to wear it in person because I want to try to pull off a grungy look!

Beso on my lips

Beso is a classic bright red lip colour. It is the easiest to wear among all three lipsticks. It is also part of their permanent liquid lipstick line.

I was pressed for time when I was taking pictures of the liquid lipsticks, and like I said, these were hard to remove, so I was not able to take a photo of Beso on the same day. I tried it the next day, and just took a photo with my iPhone, hence the inconsistency in lighting.

The applicator of the liquid lipsticks were nice and bendable. What I do is I swipe off excess product inside the tube before taking applicator out, and then I start applying on the center of my lips. With less product on the applicator, I then smile and stretch out my lips so when I apply the lipstick near the edges or the outline of the lips, it will go on smoothly. A little product goes a long way as these are really pigmented. Over all i think these are great if you are into matte lipsticks. They are kiss and drink proof! ūüíč They work better if the lips are not dry and peeling. It lasts for 12 hours with one minimal retouch in between or after an oily meal.

Have Fun!!!

Travel Makeup Essentials

The holidays and semestral break are nearing, and I am sure a lot of you will be packing your bags to have quick getaways before going back to the daily grind. So, I thought it might be nice to share with you my make up must haves for traveling. Number one, your make-up should last all day so make sure your make up items are long wearing and smudge proof. Number two, as much as possible, pack light! Airport security is very strict with hand carrying liquids. You are only allowed to pack liquids not exceeding 100ml per container, and all your items must fit in a resealable 1 quart sized transparent plastic bag, so just bring the essentials and get ready to go!

What was in my travel make-up kit?

  • RMK creamy gel foundation – Despite the semi-dewy finish, this foundation lasts all day on me.
  • Tarte Palette –¬†This is one of my favourite palettes. There’s a variety of warm and cool blush shades to choose from which makes it easy to match with any lip colour. Plus, it has a contour shade as well, which i also use on my eye crease to create depth on my lids.
  • Shu Uemura Hard Formula¬†in Acorn¬†– Natural and defined brows are a must for me, and this gets the job done.
  • Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer – I use this for a quick and brightening concealing. It has light coverage, goes on smooth, and does not crease.
  • Maybelline Gel Liner – My tried and tested smudge free gel liner. It is affordable, and lasts from day to night without looking like a raccoon at the end of the day.
  • Purple Maybelline Mascara – The affordable falsies volume’ express waterproof mascara adds¬†volume to the lashes.
  • Shu Uemura eyelash curler – Of course, I reckon all beautylistas have¬†heard of this eyelash curler. Curling the lashes makes a huge difference in opening up the eyes.
  • Chanel Les Beiges – This is great to set my foundation in place and also creates a very smooth and velvety finish. It also blurs the pores.
  • Cetaphil Daylong Face and Body Sunblock – When traveling (especially during summertime,) it is a must to protect your skin. I like this water resistant, non-greasy, and non-comedogenic sunblock that was sent to me by SampleroomPH.
  • Long wearing lipsticks – I chose my favourite¬†matte lipsticks, as these are the ones that last long. I only re-apply my lipstick after every meal. Other than that, I am picture ready!

I could not wear much eye make-up because I just had lasik surgery so having multiple choices of lip colours enabled me to have varying looks throughout the trip. Below are some of the long wearing lipsticks I brought with me, and also photos from the trip where I used those babies in action!

¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† Other¬†lipsticks¬†I brought with me that were not included in the photos above are¬†the MAC Ruby Woo – a¬†classic¬†red colour that suits most skin tones, and the Too Faced Melted Nude – a¬†perfect peachy nude colour. The OCC liptars are long wearing, but you will still need to pack a lip brush with you for retouching. In my opinion, it is still¬†more convenient to bring the lipstick tubes because you can conveniently just apply the lipstick straight from the bullet.¬†When traveling, try to apply make-up as quickly as you can. I usually give myself about 15 minutes. Please do not be that travel partner who spends hours¬†getting¬†ready! Remember, exploring and discovering new places must be¬†the number one priority! That’s about it! Carpe¬†Diem and safe travels!
