Beauty Bar Summer Cult Favorites

Welcoming the peak of summer with these awesome products available in Beauty Bar! The first brand the caught my interest was Not Your Mother’s. I first heard about it from my hair stylist friend, Mycke Arcano, as he recommended this brand for it’s volumizing hair powder. It is a brand that creates salon quality products at reasonable price points. DSC08057

Hairstylist Daniel first applied the Love For Hue colour hair protectant that was formulated to treat coloured hair. After curling my hair, he finished off my curls with the She’s a Tease volumizing hair spray because I have thin and limp hair. Love it!

I got feedback from friends too about how much they love their dry shampoo! 🙂 This looks like such a promising brand, with great reviews!

Another product that I love is Sun Bum! It’s perfect for me, since I am such a beach bum. I have tried their sunscreen spray and I love that it smells like coconuts and is infused with vitamin E and an antioxidant to fight premature skin ageing.

It’s my first time to come across this brand, but it had me at Pawpaw. I use a pawpaw balm in my makeup kit to deeply moisturise lips! Excited to try my multipurpose balm that claims to moisturise lips and skin, smooth unruly brows, and soften cuticles.

Last but not least is Full Brow. It’s a one stop shop for all your brow needs — they have a brow smudge, crayon, and powder! What stood out for me was the brow wax. It seals brows for a long lasting wear, perfect for the beach! It’s also formulated with castor oil to nourish the brows. Another product that I liked was the highlighter pencil. It’s luminous but not glittery, it gives you a nice dewy glow!

All these items are available in Beauty Bar. You may also visit their website here. Happy shopping! You won’t regret having these summer cult favourites in your beach bag!

6 Ways to Apply Eyeliner

Applying eyeliner is one of the most challenging makeup skills to learn, but do not fret because there are many different ways to do it. I can think of more than 10 ways to do an eyeliner, but in this video I will demonstrate the simplest way to apply it for an everyday on-the-go look, perfect for the makeup novices out there, and also a more advanced look when you have a little more time to prepare for a night out or an event.  The best tip that I can give you is to get pointed cotton swabs that will help you easily erase mistakes (because we all make mistakes), sharpen the edges, and make the wings aligned. Another advice is do not be too hard on yourself because practice is really the key to applying the perfect eyeliner.

Mother’s Day Makeup By My Kids

Thank you Calyxta Beauty for making us a part of your Mother’s Day video shoot! My kids really enjoyed doing it, they said “It’s the best day ever!” They think they’re now famous because they’re in YouTube. lol! Check out my runway look – lots of pink and a dash of holographic glitter! I’m just happy that I didn’t end up looking like Anabel. haha!

BadGal Bang!

Benefit just launched their most recent product — BadGal Bang! It’s a 36 hour volumizing mascara, another addition to their super curling and lengthening mascaras. I tried it on during the event after giving my lashes a good curl, and lo and behold, major volume!!! To make sure the curl holds, I curled my lashes again from the roots to the tips for that bulletproof hold. Voilà! It was like wearing natural false lashes! A little product goes a long way,  so with just a thin coat, this is what it did for my eyelashes:

It separated my lashes and added volume too!

Benefit launches are always so much fun! They always make it more interactive and exciting by hosting fun games for the guests! For this event, we had to play Space Bingo to claim a special prize!

My prize for completing the Space Bingo! OMG so cute! It lights up too!

Both my daughters wanted it so I gave them time to discuss how they’re going to solve this issue. lol! They came up with a borrowing schedule! Problem solved!

It’s hers from Monday to Wednesday. lol! This is life with 2 kids! Now, she’s the coolest little space girl in school!
What’s in the goodie bag?

Thanks for having me at the launch, Benefit! The BADgal mascara will be making it’s way in to my makeup pouch! So far, it’s my favourite Benefit mascara. If you want voluminous lashes, then this BADgal mascara is for you! 🙂

Belo Be-YOUTH-iful

What are my best anti-aging tips? I have 2 words for you, skincare and exercise. Let’s make it 3 and add wine to the mix! lol! Having a regular routine for your body and skin can make a world of a difference in keeping yourself looking youthful. To stay physically fit, strong, and healthy, I do indoor spinning, zumba, and boxing for my cardio. For toning, I do yoga and synergy 360. So, how do I manage to take care of my skin? Being a mom, makeup artist, and entrepreneur, I need to find time to take care of myself despite my busy schedule. Just like a cup, I fill myself with things that make me happy, because how else will I be able to pour anything out of an empty cup? One of my favourite places to have my ME time is in Belo.

Lovely reception area of Conrad branch

Lately, I have been trying to improve my skin texture. Contrary to what people think, I do not have flawless porcelain skin. During my adolescent years, I would get breakouts just like any normal teenager. My perpetual problem area is my forehead because it’s the oiliest part of my face, and that’s where I get those annoying little bumps which are actually white heads. For the past month, I have been going to Belo to treat my skin problems. Following the doctor’s recommendations, these are the treatments that I have done:

Hydra Facial

The bottles attached inside the machine contains the serums needed for the hydra facial.

The Hydra Facial is an all in one facial that exfoliates and hydrates. The machine simultaneously exfoliates the dead skin and expels serums to treat the skin. The machine expels salicylic acid to clarify the skin and remove oil. I have combination skin so my t-zone gets oily and because of this, my forehead and nose are prone to white heads and black heads. After that, the machine applies glycolic acid to soften black heads and white heads for an easier extraction and cleaning. The cleaning part is the most unpleasant part of the facial, but it is important to do this in order to get rid of the white heads, black heads, and acne. No pain, no gain! The next day, my forehead bumps got smaller. Last step of the facial is when the skin is bathed with hyalaraunic acid as it brightens, hydrates, and plumps the skin. It’s the best serum for anti-aging! It’s good to have a facial once a month to unclog the pores.

A week after my hydra facial, I followed up with the Revlight. Revlight uses light beams as high energy pulses to remove skin pigmentation and discolorations like acne marks and sun spots. It also improves skin texture, minimizes pores, and removes fine hairs. As we age, our collagen production slows down. Revlight promotes collagen growth underneath the skin, that is why it is a good anti-aging treatment as well. The procedure wasn’t painful for me — it just felt like quick tiny flicks of the rubber band. It took about 10-15 minutes to finish, and Dr. Jetty from the Fort clinic made sure that my skin got as many pulses as it can take! Thank you, Dr. Jetty!

I also applied their CHAT medicine for two weeks. CHAT stands for: Clindamycin – it prevents black and white heads and an antibacterial for pimples, Hydroquinone – whitens skin, Alum – minimises pores, and Tretionon – exfoliates the skin. I stopped using it because my skin became red, but after one week, my skin peeled and looked so much clearer! That’s why I will start using it again every other night to slowly reintroduce it to my skincare regimen.

Here is a summary of the treatments I had to achieve my results: 2 Hydra Facials, 2 Revlights, and 2 weeks of CHAT medicine. Remember, we all have different skin types and conditions. What you need may be different from what I need. Now, let’s make this social media official — Without further ado,  here is my before and after photo: (no filter, no edit!)

Before and After

I have no foundation, just eyebrows. You know me, kilay is life. lol. In just one month, my forehead bumps diminished! See how smooth it is compared to before?! Go ahead and zoom it! Yay! I’m so happy! My skin also looks healthier, more plump, less oily, and more youthful! These days, I’m usually wearing very minimal makeup, as in zero foundation — just concealer, lip and cheek tint, and brow product. That’s really my ultimate skin goal, to wear minimal makeup and be comfortable with my bare skin. I always tell my makeup students that beautiful makeup starts with beautiful skin, that makeup is best applied to enhance beauty and not as a mask. The most expensive foundation cannot hide bumps, it can conceal redness/discoloration, but not bumpy texture.  I  believe that with skin care, prevention is key! Take care of your skin before you see wrinkles and sun spots! I’m in my 30s now and it’s never too early or too late to address your skin woes.  Be patient, find what works for you, and invest in your skin. Take care of your mind, body, and soul so that you will always look and feel youthful.

Thank you Belo for taking care of my skin! For those who have skin concerns or simply needs a little pampering, book an appointment with them here: Belo. Goodluck and I hope you will also have great results like I did!

2018 Makeup Trends

Welcoming a new year means welcoming new makeup trends! 🙂 What makeup looks am I loving this 2018? Number one in my list is still the glowing and radiant skin trend. I made sure to prep my skin with the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream to make my skin plump, soft, and radiant. For the glow, I used the Cover Fx custom enhancer drops in sunlight. It is a soft gold liquid highlighter so it emanates warm radiance from the face, which brings me to another trend I am currently enjoying — gold highlighter! Thanks to Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty Killawatt Highlighter which rocked the makeup world at the latter part of 2017. If you’re not ready to go all out with yellow gold highlighter, you won’t regret giving pale gold a shot. Feathery brows are still roaming free this 2018 so I just brushed up my brows with benefit brow vo and and filled it in with hair like strokes with the K-palette real lasting eyebrow pen. For the lips, I went for a pop of colour and topped it off with the Kiko 3D hydra lipgloss 18. This year, you can expect radiant skin to pair well with glossy lips! I’m actually glad to set aside my ultra matte lippies as it dries up my lips and makes them appear cracked after wearing for a couple of hours.  For the eyes, I used a burnt copper shimmer eye shadow from Viseart Le Petit Pro on the crease and a Kiko Milano long lasting eyebrow stick with glitter specs, because glitter on the lids is still going strong this 2018. I just can’t get enough of KiraKira! Last but not least, I am all for the rosy tan spring/summer trend, it gives you a sun kissed look without the sun!!! I used a staple in my kit, Soleil Tan de Chanel, as cream bronzer and added the Kiko Milano velvet touch creamy stick blush 02 to give me that healthy, sun kissed, and rosy glow. What make up trends are you excited to try this year?

Beauty & Bordeaux

In my most recent workshop, I combined two of my favorite interests — makeup and wine! It’s not your usual pairing, but when you bring a bunch of women together to learn about makeup and drink wine, you know it’s going to be fun! I collaborated with Rox Lee of Artisan Cellar Door and we brought Manila’s first French wine tasting and makeup workshop. Our participants learned about French beauty, which focuses more on skin care and keeping things fresh and natural, definitely nothing over the top! Despite not being included in the usual French makeup routine, I also added basic contouring as requested by my participants. I did a makeup demonstration first (before anyone got tipsy. lol) and then challenged my participants to focus on just one facial feature, either the lips or the eyes, and keep everything else natural. Our participants also got to taste different kinds of Bordeaux wine and learn about it as well. Lourds gave us basic bordeaux wine information and taught us how to broaden our wine options and go beyond just ordering the restaurant’s house wine. Towards the end of the workshop, giggles turned into laughter, new friendships were formed, and the atmosphere became happier and more relaxed, those are definitely effects of the combination of wine and makeup!

I would like to thank all our sponsors for their generosity. Thanks Nuxe for indulging our participants with a cute travel size bottle of huile prodigieuse — my favourite after bath oil, it nourishes my skin and it smells absolutely divine. Nuxe is definitely one of the best French skin care brands out there. Thanks Bobbi Brown for the cream blush that will surely give our participants a rosy glow. Thanks Origins for sending your brand’s best selling skin care treatment and mask. Last but not least, thanks L’oreal for the mascaras and lip balms! This event would not be as successful without your support. I am forever grateful!

Rox has the best selection of Bordeaux wine in Manila! Seriously, look at the background!
Thanks Lourds for the Wine 101
